Tuesday morning, instead of working, we all walked to the market. Here are Carlo, Eddie, Evan, and Michael hanging out at the gatekeeper's house getting ready. It was a warm day, so we dressed for it.
Any excuse for a picture. Here are the guys with Quyen.
Cooper assessing the situation and Chris getting ready to use his newly found gift of speaking Vietnamese.
Quang being Quang. (Ask the guys about this when they get back.)
Tien...OK, the reason he goes by Tien now is that when he would be asked by people, "What is your name?" he would say "Andrew." They they would say their own name. This went on for a while until he realized that everyone thought he was saying "And you." So, he is now his Vietnamese name Tien, which he answers to proudly.
Action shot going through the little streets surrounding the cathedral grounds.
This is the Grace Bridge, named after God's grace. It was newly rebuilt and crosses one of the many canals. The north of Vietnam is much drier than the south, so canals were built to transport water to the rice fields, much like we do in California.
Some of the guys on the Grace Bridge.
It was cool with a nice breeze on the bridge so Fr. Luong had us take a short break.
The canal is filled with clams, and this man wades and picks them for sale. Great with a little hot sauce.
And so we arrive at the market along with hundreds of others.
