It is the Thursday morning, the last full morning of our immersion, a good time to take an hour and visit the local shops. Wanting to support the community, we went to the shops close to the cathedral grounds. Here, one of three sisters who own a shop together puts on my hat. This is where we get kem (ice cream).
A few doors down, one of the youngest shopkeepers is trying to get me to buy something, but I feigned poverty and was let off the hook.
The last shop is run by the sisters from the convent. Tino was getting tired by this time and almost fell asleep on the woven pillows.
One of the village priests saw Tino and decided then and there to fall asleep. I think the world is getting crazier and crazier.
Carlo is trying to find just the right presents for his six girlfriends. Oops, I hope they don't all read this.
Nhan is helping Teacher Peggy sort through all of the possibilities. I'm not sure what she got in the end, but I bet it was special.
Tien is looking carefully while Chris is popping a munchie. There hasn't been many snacks and this is a great time to grab a few.
Evan was overwhelmed by all the choices.
Here is part of the group taken from our second floor common area. They are happy to be back and get ready for working in the garden.
Eddie, Mike, and Teacher Peggy wondering what in the world I'm doing hanging out the window by one toe.
In the summers I spend time with my good friends in Phat Diem, Vietnam, a small country village with a world famous cathedral. Here are some of my musings. If you would like to correspond, please email me: garymeegan@gmail.com.
