It's the end of the first rice harvest. The first takes place in June and the second in December. But it is the first harvest from which the bishop's house buys rice for the year. Here is the first load of rice. In a few days, all 25 tons of rice for the next twelve months will be delivered and stored in rooms behind the kitchen. Here are the first few bags ready to be stored away.
Why so much rice? Well, we all eat rice at every meal. Also, there are the many children who live here during the summer, there are also numerous pilgrims who come to the cathedral and stay overnight, and many meetings and celebrations are held here where the number of guests may number as many as 100.
The sidewalk that leads from the courtyard to the kitchen is not wide, so the delivery truck needs to park outsdie the dining hall and the rice is transferred to a small 3-wheel ATV with a small flatbed on the back. Here is a video of the guys transferring the rice from the truck to the ATV. Like anywhere, being a delivery person is never very easy.
