In the summers I spend time with my good friends in Phat Diem, Vietnam, a small country village with a world famous cathedral. Here are some of my musings. If you would like to correspond, please email me: garymeegan@gmail.com.

Messages for My Father
On the last day of class for the advanced students, the class wanted to make another video for my dad. Each spent time writing and practicing what they were going to say. We filmed in the garden so the setting is beautiful, but I forgot one thing. I have a new camera this year that has more pixels, so the file is too big to post. When I get back I'll have to find someone who can make it smaller. In the meantime, I will show it to my father when I get home.As is the case every year, there had to be a party after the last class. Here I am with the gifts the advanced students gave me. All of these are hand made right here in the village of Phat Diem. It is a tradition of tightly woven stems from the rice harvest. I don't get to keep all of them, of course. The black flip-flops and the bag are for dad. The men in Vietnam can carry the books they are reading in small bags like this. The container is for decoration, but the small pen/pencil holder is for the theology office. Sometimes I come home with more than I bring.
