In the summers I spend time with my good friends in Phat Diem, Vietnam, a small country village with a world famous cathedral. Here are some of my musings. If you would like to correspond, please email me: garymeegan@gmail.com.

Giao Xu Ung Luat Parish
Saturday afternoon, I went with Fr. Minh to Giao Xu Parish, a small rural parish. It is very poor, and many of the young are going to the cities after high school. There were not many people at mass, but that is also because it is harvest time and the rice needs to be harvested no matter what. It is two weeks of intense work. The first picture is of me with two of the elders of the parish. On the right is Mr. Duc who is a high school teacher like me. In the next post we'll visit his house. The second picture is of Fr. Minh going in to the sacristy. Below that are pictures of the church itself, which is about 10 years older than Phat Diem cathedral, which makes it about 115 years old. The video at the bottom is of the interior. You can see the red and gold at the front of the church symbolizing heaven.
