Here at the bishop's house there are two ways of washing clothes: #1 - ask the sister who is in charge of the washing machine to do it for you (not a good thing to ask because she is so busy), or #2 - do it yourself. I opt for #2. Washing clothes in the shower is the best after a hot day of work. I use some Camp Suds (a liquid used by campers that does not hurt the environment) in the blue basin and fill it with water. Then I swirl and knead the shirt or the pants in the water. For collars, I use the collar brush. Then I put it in the pink basin and rinse it out thoroughly. After a good wringing, I hang it up in the room. If this is all done right, the clothes are really clean and you have nice cool water all over you.
In the summers I spend time with my good friends in Phat Diem, Vietnam, a small country village with a world famous cathedral. Here are some of my musings. If you would like to correspond, please email me: garymeegan@gmail.com.
