On Sunday, I went with Fr. Minh for 8:00 a.m. mass at his home parish. He is so great with the people, and this was the children's mass, so he took the cordless mike and "worked the crowd." He had them roaring with laughter and applause.
In the first picture, one of the elders of the parish is showing me around. He then stood next to one of the women in the parish who is devoted to Mary and I took a picture of them in front of the grotto. He took me into the grotto and when I turned around, I caught this picture of some of the girls following us.
Next are some pictures of the church, very French, the community house in the distance where everyone celebrates church holidays, and a close picture of a couple of altar boys and the Sacred Heart. After mass, we spent an hour with the sisters who live at the parish and teach catechism. Here is Fr. Minh with the sister who teaches music, and then Fr. Minh with the sisters. I think that wherever you go in Viet Nam, everyone wants you to have tea with them and talk all day. This is perfect for an extravert like me.
In the summers I spend time with my good friends in Phat Diem, Vietnam, a small country village with a world famous cathedral. Here are some of my musings. If you would like to correspond, please email me: garymeegan@gmail.com.
