Today was the wedding reception for the daughter of the music director at the cathedral, so everyone was invited to the big party at 6 p.m. In the afternoon, we all went to the sisters' store and bought a present, a picture of the Holy Family. Here is Quyen proudly carrying it to the reception.
The reception was held only a few blocks away so most of us walked. There was no sun and we enjoyed the stroll.
The bunch from the cathedral got the royal treatment with our own room. Here is Mr. Hieu already seated in preparation for the fun and festivities.
We were shown the wedding album. It is on heavy card stock and beautifully done. On each page is a saying about love in English along with creative poses.
Here I am holding the book.
The food was then brought out and we prepared to take our time eating.
Here I am with the bride and groom. It's difficult being in a picture with photogenic people like them.
Now we add on the father of the bride.
No matter the size of the table, there is always more food and drink that it can handle.
And that green soda bottle? Well, it's filled with the local moonshine. I still have a headache from it.
Enjoying the great food with the goorm across from me.
To my left are more revelers.
Just a picture of the statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus lit up on the island in front of the cathedral along with the moon. I took it on the walk home. This is what I get to see every night in Phat Diem. I am so damn lucky.
In the summers I spend time with my good friends in Phat Diem, Vietnam, a small country village with a world famous cathedral. Here are some of my musings. If you would like to correspond, please email me: garymeegan@gmail.com.
