After the group presentations, I told the class we were all going to continue English lessons up in our common area. Tuan was sneaky and ordered a birthday cake, had it delivered, and Teacher Kyle and Teacher Peggy got the area all set up. When Mike reached the top of the stairs he was surprised. The cake was made locally by a young couple in their home.
The shot where we all get together and show the type of community we have become: brothers in Christ. And Mike could not stop smiling the whole time.
The cake which says "Happy Birthday Mike, Phat Diem Bishop House, Your Second Home."
Teacher Peggy cutting the cake, Eddie hoping for the next piece, Mike wondering what Tien (Andrew) is passing a huge piece, and Michael is thinking about all of that sugary goodness.
They did not supply enough plates, but we did have enough plastic forks, so it was everyone for himself after a while.
Seven minutes from candles to clean plate, a new Phat Diem record.
In the summers I spend time with my good friends in Phat Diem, Vietnam, a small country village with a world famous cathedral. Here are some of my musings. If you would like to correspond, please email me: garymeegan@gmail.com.
