Today is the Feast of St. Anthony. Every year, the Church celebrates the works that he did, trusting in God and working hard. In Viet Nam, a saint's name is given each Catholic infant. In the U.S., the tradition is that a saint's name is chosen for confirmation. Here we have the two Anthony's: Teacher Kyle and Fr. Bo. Each received a rousing speech from Fr. Luong, flowers, and a huge round of applause. Our patron saint is important to us and we should celebrate our feast day each year. Hmmm...gifts not only on our birthday and Christmas, but also on our feast day? That sounds
delicious.
Mr. Hieu toasts Teacher Kyle on his feast day with a nice cold glass of beer. We are all brothers and sisters here.
In the summers I spend time with my good friends in Phat Diem, Vietnam, a small country village with a world famous cathedral. Here are some of my musings. If you would like to correspond, please email me: garymeegan@gmail.com.
