There are four English teachers for the children who teach Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Among them is Sr. Lua. She is a Sister of The Lovers of the Holy Cross, whose convent is one block from the cathedral grounds. When not teaching English in the classroom, she also works in the diocesan library.
This is Fr. Vong, director of summer school, and Sr. Lua in the library. Sister writes and reads excellent English, so we mostly work on pronunciation and conversation. Fr. Vong is a scholar and got both of his masters and his doctorate at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley.
This is Sr. Lua with some photogenic guy. Yesterday we started working on Dr. Seuss' book, Hop on Pop, so that she can use it with the children.
In the summers I spend time with my good friends in Phat Diem, Vietnam, a small country village with a world famous cathedral. Here are some of my musings. If you would like to correspond, please email me: garymeegan@gmail.com.
