Well, Danny dropped me off at the airport and I waited until 1:05 a.m. to get on China Air 003 bound for Taipei. From there I was to get on a flight to Ha Noi. But no...that was not to be. When I sat down in my seat I fell right to sleep like always. I woke up a few hours later and thought to myself, "This is the smoothest flight ever. I didn't even wake when we took off." Well, of course not. We had, indeed, not taken off. The plane was still on the tarmac and there were noises of people working on it. Dang. (And that's me waiting in line at SFO).
(Danny paitently waiting with me at SFO). Well, to make a long story short, we took off hours later than we were supposed to. When we got to Taipei, those of us transferring to other flights had to be rebooked. I must say that China Air did a quick job of it, about 30 seconds worth of time, but now I have to take a flight to Saigon before waiting a couple of hours to connect finally to Ha Noi. Yup, let's add another 10 hours to the trip.
I emailed Fr. Hien at the bishop's house (Taipei has free wi-fi, thank goodness), who promptly emailed me back that everything's a go for the later time - 8:40 p.m.
So here I sit at the airport, a lunch of ciabatta bolognese and a latte (very Italian, don't you think?). I'll probably get in to Phat Diem by 10:30 p.m. or so, take a shower, and then hit the hay. As always, I'll keep you posted. The picture below is the airport at Taipei.
