After a good night's rest, I woke up in time for coffee with Hieu before breakfast. He's an old bud who is the resident handyman and good friend. Also I got to meet Sistine, a volunteer English teacher from Versailles, France. He has been here five months and is returning to begin her masters next Monday.
At breakfast I got to see the old bunch again, and then I spent time with Sistine (her name is French for Sistine, as in the Sistine Chapel, but she says her name just like the English number sixteen). She has a tremendous number of photos from her visit here and we traded stories about alll the people we know.
After lunch, I laid down for what I thought was going to be a few minutes rest, but was waken up by Joseph Thien at 4:30! I was -- and still am -- very tired from the trip. All the guys (there are many pre-seminarians, seminarians here and, believe it or not, over 200 children) played soccer.
Not all one game, but the older ones got the field and the younger the sidewalks. At 5:45 a deluge came.
And below are the obligatory rain scenes for Sue because she loves watching it fall.
In the summers I spend time with my good friends in Phat Diem, Vietnam, a small country village with a world famous cathedral. Here are some of my musings. If you would like to correspond, please email me: garymeegan@gmail.com.
