One of the great experiences of coming back each year is that I get to be a part of people's lives. Here are three of my former students, all priests, who concelebrated mass together along with some of the advanced English students. Fr. Lich, on the left, was only a seminarian when I first taught in Vietnam, now he is ordained. Fr. Khue, center, is rector of the minor seminary, and also speaks incredible French. Fr. Hung, on the right, just got back two days ago from America where he studied for three years. He was also in my first class. Fr. Hung and I visited this past winter when he was in San Jose with relatives.
The advanced students come from all over the diocese and represent different parishes. These are all pre-seminarians this year, and all want to visit the United States to study.
This is the chapel for the bishop's house where we have morning and evening prayer along with daily mass. There is no air-conditioning, so I think God gives us extra credit on hot days.
In the summers I spend time with my good friends in Phat Diem, Vietnam, a small country village with a world famous cathedral. Here are some of my musings. If you would like to correspond, please email me: garymeegan@gmail.com.
